Dreams or convictions? from YOUNGBLOOD of INQUIRER.net

Dreams or convictions?
By Florence Joy L. Maluyo
Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 04:21:00 08/09/2008

I miss everything about my childhood. I miss the time everything was so simple and happiness simply meant chocolates, toys and dresses. Why is it that as we grow older, things become more and more complicated?

I am one of the many graduating students who have a lot of uncertainties and anxieties. Where will I work after graduation? Where will I be five or 10 years from now?

During the final screening for the Ayala Young Leaders Congress, an Ayala executive asked me if I had plans of going abroad. I knew that question would arise. As a student leader, my community expects me to serve my country after graduation. After having attended so many training sessions and seminars, people expect me not to leave the Philippines when I finish college. I am expected to put into action the things I have learned in and out of the campus. So when the question was put to me, I was supposed to answer no, lest I miss the opportunity of being part of the congress.

My conscience struggled with my mind and my conscience won. I said yes, and luckily, I was still picked as one of the 73 participants after a nationwide search. It was then that I realized that honesty and truthfulness can have good results.

Probably, some people are disappointed by this admission, particularly my mentors. I am a student in development communication (devcom) and yet I plan to work abroad and serve another country instead of my own.

When the executive asked me why, I told him that I could not effect change in my community if I had nothing to offer. Let us face the fact: it is hard to make things happen without money. While it is true that a devcom practitioner has to be with the people and be for the people, it is also a fact that I need money to do such things. To do community work, particularly educating people in the far-flung areas, I cannot always expect to get a subsidy from the government or anybody else.

I also told my interviewer that my first priority is my family and that I need to work and earn for them. However, I do not plan to spend my whole life in a foreign country. After five years of working and saving abroad, I’ll go back to this place and pursue my dream for my own land.

When I was in high school, I envisioned myself as a journalist and as a community worker. Now that I am in college, I enjoy being an advocate of environmental protection. But aside from this, I also have my responsibilities as a daughter and a sister.

I am torn between my dreams and my convictions. I am torn between what I need and what I love. My mind argues with my heart about which is better and which is best, which is more beneficial and which is essential.

If our country could only provide for the needs of our people, probably no one would find himself in such a dilemma. If our country had a lot to offer to its people, probably I would not be in this state of confusion. But who can you blame? Is it the government or the circumstances I find myself in?

I don’t want to be pessimistic about all the things that are happening to me and to our country. I don’t want to linger on the grim scenarios. But I am no longer a child and I know that now I have to deal with the situation as a mature person. I can no longer react like a child when her candies are taken from her. I don’t know what the future has in store for me, but I hold on to my faith that God will never forsake me.

The sad realities of life need to be cured by a positive outlook and a positive response. “The response to pain and suffering is to forget,” Ann Rice says. “Flesh and blood, bodily needs, these are what inspire memory in man. And when these are wholly absent, it can be sweet to remember nothing at all.”

For me to live is to learn and to go beyond what is real, what is obvious, what is evil, and discover why God placed us in the situation we are in. I know that in due time, my convictions and my dreams will reconcile. And the things I love and the things I need will complement each other.

Florence Joy L. Maluyo, 20, is a Bachelor of Arts in Development Communication senior at the Central Luzon State University.

God's Message For You Today, June 24, 2008

A
doctor of psychology once posted his fabricated survey results on all
the bulletin boards of an American high school. It said that skin color
had a direct link to mathematical abilities and Caucasian students
excelled in Math more than all other skin types.
After
some weeks, Caucasian students topped Math in many if not all of the
classes. A month later, he changed his fabricated survey report and
said that there had been an error in the data analysis. It's actually
the Afro- Americans who have the best mathematical abilities. After
that, the black students began to excel in their Math subjects.
The conclusion? People behave based on the labels they have decided to accept. Names and labels prophesy to a person's life. When a mother calls her son "Bobo!"whenever
he makes a mistake, the boy will most likely flunk because he
"unknowingly"accepts it. A man who is tagged as a "playboy
like his dad," will most likely be a hopeless womanizer who lives up to
the people's expectations.
What have your past failures "named" you? "Sablay?" "Bakla?" "Addict!" You don't need to live up to these names. Your past does not determine your future. God can give you a new name.Jon Escoto

REFLECTION:
What names do you carry? Who gave them to you?

Lord,
I have believed in the names that have brought me curse and despair.
Let me hear You call me by a new name. Let me answer to names "My Love," "Victorious" and "Joy."

We
all live in hope of the time of restoration and salvation. For
Christians, this is heaven. We prepare ourselves for this gift by
following God's will here on earth and seeking to grow in holiness each
day. John the Baptist forsook all earthly ambition in order to dedicate
his life to preparing the way for Jesus' ministry.

Isaiah 49:1-6
1 Hear me, O coastlands, listen, O distant peoples. The LORD called me from birth, from my mother's womb he gave me my name. 2 He
made of me a sharp-edged sword and concealed me in the shadow of his
arm. He made me a polished arrow, in his quiver he hid me. 3 You are my servant, he said to me, Israel, through whom I show my glory. 4 Though
I thought I had toiled in vain, and for nothing, uselessly, spent my
strength, yet my reward is with the LORD, my recompense is with my God. 5 For
now the LORD has spoken who formed me as his servant from the womb,
that Jacob may be brought back to him and Israel gathered to him; and I
am made glorious in the sight
of the LORD, and my God is now my strength! 6 It
is too little, he says, for you to be my servant, to raise up the
tribes of Jacob, and restore the survivors of Israel; I will make you a
light to the nations, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the
earth.

P S A L M

Psalm 139:1b-3, 13-14ab, 14c-15
R: I praise you for I am wonderfully made.
1 O LORD, you have probed me and you know me; 2 you know when I sit and when I stand; you understand my thoughts from afar. 3 My journeys and my rest you scrutinize, with all my ways you are familiar. (R) 13 Truly you have formed my inmost being; you knit me in my mother's womb. 14 I give you thanks that I am fearfully, wonderfully made; wonderful are your works. (R) My soul also you knew full well; 15 nor was my frame unknown to you when I was made in secret, when I was fashioned in the depths of the earth. (R)

2nd READING

The
Scriptures are full of stories about the lives of men and women who
gave their all in obedience to God's call. Today, it is up to us to
provide a similar witness to a world that needs it more than ever. Are
you up to it? I hope you are. I am sure that God wants to raise you up
as a living witness to His love for His people.

Acts 13:22-26
22 Then
he removed him and raised up David as their king; of him he testified,
'I have found David, son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will
carry out my every wish.' 23 From this man's descendants God, according to his promise, has brought to Israel a savior, Jesus. 24 John heralded his coming by proclaiming a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel; 25 and as John was completing his course, he would say, 'What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. Behold, one is coming after me; I am not worthy to unfasten the sandals of his feet.' 26 "My
brothers, children of the family of Abraham, and those others among you
who are God-fearing, to us this word of salvation has been sent."

G O S P E L

John
the Baptist recognizes he is in the presence of the Messiah even while
he and Jesus are still in their respective mothers' wombs. This
indicates a remarkable sensitivity of Spirit that will be repeated
again and again in the life and ministry of John. An example is when he
says, "I must decrease and He must increase."

Luke 1:57-66, 80
57 When the time arrived for Elizabeth to have her child she gave birth to a son. 58 Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy toward her, and they rejoiced with her. 59 When they
came on the eighth day to circumcise the child, they were going to call him Zechariah after his father, 60 but his mother said in reply, "No. He will be called John." 61 But they answered her, "There is no one among your relatives who has this name." 62 So
they made signs, asking his father what he wished him to be called. 63 He asked for a tablet and wrote, "John is his name," and all were amazed. 64 Immediately his mouth was opened, his tongue freed, and he spoke blessing God. 65 Then fear came upon all their
neighbors, and all these matters were discussed throughout the hill country of Judea. 66 All who heard these things took them to heart, saying, "What, then, will this child be?" For surely the hand of the Lord was with him. 80 The child grew and became strong in spirit, and he was in the desert until the day of his manifestation to Israel.

GETTING TO KNOW THE SAINTS

Saint SaBaS

Saint
Sabas was born during the 4th century A.D. As a young man, Sabas
converted to Christianity, serving as lector to the priest Sansala. He
was noted for his obedience, humility and honesty, and his desire to
sing divine praises and toremain chaste.

During
his period, King Athanaric of the Goths began persecuting Christians.
Sabas, an honest Christian, was exiled several times. On one occasion,
the Christians pretended to eat the meat offered to pagan gods. He
condemned such act because according to him, such pretension was still
an act of renouncing the Catholic faith. In another assembly, the
Christians present swore that nobody among them was a Christian. But
Sabas was brave enough to proclaim his Christianity.

In
his final persecution, the king's men, headed by Atharidus, broke into
the house of Sansala. They took the man and threw him on a cart. They
also dragged the sleeping saint over thorns and briars, forcing him
with whips and staves. His naked body bore no bruises, thus, enraging
his tormentors.

In
his capture, when the mistress of the house untied him, Sabas refused
to escape. Instead, he helped the woman dress the victuals for the
family. The next day, he was hung upon a beam of the house. He was
offered meats that had been sacrificed to idols. The man refused,
leading a slave of Atharidus to stab the saint's breast with the point
of his javelin. Miraculously, Sabas was left unharmed.

Saint Sabas was martyred in 372 along with 50 other Christians. His body was tied to a pole and drowned in the Mussovo River.

Saint anicetuS

Saint
Anicetus of the second century was born in Emesa, Syria. He was elected
pope in about 152 A.D. He defended Christianity during his reign for
eight years. According to Gnostics, the physical life of Jesus was
actually illusory and for Marcionists, the Jewish background to
Christianity was dangerous and must be eradicated completely.
Christians also argued on the correct date of Easter. To settle the
dispute, Saint Polycarp of Smyrna organized a conference, which turned
out to be unsuccessful. Anicetus, on the other hand, decided to follow
the Asiatics' Easter celebration, that is the 14th day after the first
moon
of the vernal equinox. Unfortunately, the issue remained unsettled
until centuries later.

According
to some, Anicetus died with a martyr's death around 160-166. His
martyrdom is primarily due to the sufferings he underwent for the
Christian faith.

IT IS GOD WHO CALLS US

The
witness of the Scriptures is unequivocal on this point, namely, that it
is God who calls us to follow Him and gives us the graces and gifts
necessary to carry out the work He has given us to do. As a priest, I
am very aware of this process and can clearly identify moments of my
life — usually when I was asking God about what He wanted me to do with
my life — when God spoke quite clearly to me about His will and purpose
for my life. I thank God for this grace as it makes things quite simple
for me when temptations to depart from the priestly way of life come,
and they can come often. I simply look back to those moments when I
heard His
call for me to follow Him and reject the temptation that can divert me
from the right path.
I
firmly believe that God has a plan for each of our lives – it is just a
matter of discovering it. This can be a tortuous path for many,
probably because we bring our own provisos and conditions with us. God
loves us all unconditionally. He loves us with an everlasting love that
will never seek anything butthe best for us. If we truly believe this,
why would we want to put any conditions in responding to His call?
In
the Gospels, we see that the disciples, the apostles of Jesus, follow
Him immediately upon hearing His call. If it is good enough for them,
then it is good enough forus. Following Jesus does not mean our lives
will be any easier than if we follow a worldly path. In fact, it will
be more difficult but at least we will be sure that there is a reason
for this — that we are directly involved in the work of bringing about
the Kingdom of God here on earth. The difficulties of life as a
disciple of Jesus always have meaning to them, a meaning that comes
through faith. The unanswered questions of the sufferings of those who
wander
aimlessly through life do not surprise me. At the same time, I know
that surrendering one's life to the call of Jesus is the only way to
answer those questions satisfactorily. Fr. Steve Tynan

Reflection Question:
Have I identified what God's call on my life is? Don't I think I should do this if I have not already done so?

Holy Spirit, reveal to me daily the will of God for my life so that I will never depart from His holy and perfect will.

St. John the Baptist, martyr, pray for us.

Lucia Reveals the Third Secret of Fatima

LAST SECRET OF FATIMA
The Church has given permission to reveal to the people the last part ofthe
message.

The blessed Virgin appeared to three  children in Fatima,Portugal,  in
1917, this is a proven fact, one of these children is still alive, hername
is Lucia, she is a Cloistered nun and lives in a monastery inPortugal.
Lucia disclosed the message for the first time to Pope Pius XII whom, after
reading it, he sealed it and stored away without making itpublic.    Later
Pope John XXIII read it and, in the same manner as his predecessor hekept
it out of the public eye because he knew that once revealed, it willbring
desperation and panic to human kind.

Now the time has come, and permission has been granted from Pope JohnPaul
II to reveal it to the children of God, in order not to create panic butto
make people aware of this important message so everybody can beprepared.

The Virgin told Lucia: "Go my child and tell the  world whatwill come to
pass during the 1950's - 2000's.   Men are not practicing theCommandments
that our Father has given us.   Evil is governing the world andis
harvesting hate and resentment all over.    Men willfabricate mortal
weapons that will destroy  the world in minutes, half of the humanrace will
be destroyed, the war will begin against Rome, and there will beconflicts
amongst religious orders.

God will allow all natural phenomenon's like smoke, hail, cold, water, fire,
floods, earthquakes, winds and inclement weather to slowly batterthe
planet.  These things will come to pass before the year 2010. "Those who
won't believe, this is the time" your beloved mother told you"those lacking
charity towards others and those who do not love thy neighbor likemy
beloved Son has loved you, all, cannot survive.  They will wish tohave
died, millions are unimaginable, they will come, and there is nodoubt.

Our Lord God will punish severely those who do not believe in him, thosewho
despise him and those who did not have time for him."  "Icall upon all of
you to come to my son Jesus Christ, God helps the world but all of thosewho
do not show fidelity and loyalty will be destroyed".

Father Agustin, who lives in Fatima, said that Pope Paul VI gave him
permission to visit sister Lucia who is a Cloistered nun (she does notleave
the monastery nor is allowed to received any visitors).  FatherAgustin said
that she received him greatly overwhelmed and told him: "Father, our lady
is very sad because nobody is interested in her prophecy of 1917, thoughthe
righteous are walking through a narrow path, the evil ones arewalking
through an ample road that is leading them straight to theirdestruction,
believe me father, the punishment will come very soon.

"Many souls will be lost, many nations will disappear from theearth.  But,
in the middle of all these, if men reflect, pray and practice gooddeeds,
the world can be saved. One of all these, if men persist with its evil, the
world will be lost forever.

The time has come for all to pass on the message of our Blessed Ladyto
their families, friends, and to the entire world.  Start praying, tomake
penitence and sacrifices.  We are at the last minute of the last dayand the
catastrophes are near.  Due to this, many that were far from thechurch will
return to the open arms of the Church of Jesus Christ.  The joiningof the
churches will result in one Holy Catholic and  Apostolic Church.England,
Russia, China, Jews, Muslims and Protestants.  All will returnbelieving and
worshipping God our creator, in his beloved Son and in our BlessedMother
Virgin Mary".

WHAT AWAITS US???
Everywhere there will be "Peace Talks", but punishment willcome.    A MAN
IN A VERY IMPORTANT POSITION WILL BE ASSASSINATED AND  THIS WILLPROVOKE THE
WAR.  A POWERFUL ARMY WILL DOMINATE ALL THROUGH  EUROPE AND THENUCLEAR WAR
WILL COMMENCE.

This war will destroy everything, darkness will fall over us for 72hours
(three days) and the one third of humanity that survives this obscurityand
sacrifice, will commence to live a new era, they will be goodpeople.  In a
very cold night, 10 minutes before midnight, A  GREAT QUAKE willshake the
earth for 8 hours.  This will be the third signal  that God iswho governs
the earth.  The righteous and those who propagate the faith and themessage
of the Lady of Fatima SHOULD NOT FEAR, DO NOT BE AFRAID.

WHAT TO DO???
Bow your heads, kneel down and ask God for forgiveness.
Because only what is good and is not under the  power of evil willsurvive
the catastrophe.  In order for you to prepare and remainalive,  I will give
you the following signs:     ANGUISH........ AND INA  SHORT PERIOD THE
EARTHQUAKE WILL COMMENCE... THE EARTH WILL SHAKE....  The shake willbe so
violent that will move the earth 23 degrees and it will return it toits
normal position.  Then, total and absolute darknes will cover theentire
planet...  All evil spirits will be mingling around and free, doingharm to
all those souls that did not want to listen to this message and thosewho
did not want to repent.  To the faithful souls, remember to lightthe
blessed candles, prepare a sacred altar with a crucifix in order to
communicate with GOD and implore for His infinite mercy....  Allwill be
dark, IN THE SKY A  GREAT MYSTIC CROSS will appear to remind usthe  price
that his beloved Son  had to pay for our redemption....  In thehouse the
only thing that can give  light will be the HOLY CANDLES... Oncelit,
nothing will put them off until the three days of darkness are over.
Also, you should have Holy water that should be sprinkled abundantlyon
windows and doors.  The Lord will protect the property of the chosenones...

Kneel down before the powerful cross of my beloved Son, pray the Rosaryand
after each Hail Mary you must pray the following: "Oh God forgive usour
sins, preserve us from the fire of hell, take all souls to heaven,
especially those who are in more need of thy mercy.  Blessed VirginMary
protect us, we love you, save us and save the world".

Pray 5 Creeds and the Rosary which is the secret to my ImmaculateHeart.
All those who believe in my words go and take the message to everyone,DO
NOT  FEAR.  FEAR NOTHING DURING THE LORD'S GREAT DAY. Talk to all the souls
now that there is time, those who keep quiet will be responsible forall
those souls who will perish in ignorance.  All those who prayhumbly
the rosary will have the protection of heaven and those who are boundto
die.  I will help them die in peace and they will be holy when theyenter
the other world.  I wish all my children to attend mass every firstFriday
and every first Saturday of each month, to confess and receive Holy
Communion and in doing, do save the world from its TOTALDESTRUCTION.

WHEN the earth shakes no more, those who still do not believe in ourLord
will perish in a horrible way.  The wind will bring gas and it willdisperse
it everywhere, then the sun will rise.  Maybe you  will survivethis
catastrophe.  Do not forget that God's  punishment is holy andONCE IT HAS
STARTED YOU SHOULD NOT LOOK OUTSIDE, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE,! GOD DOESNOT
WANT ANY OF HIS CHILDREN TO SEE WHEN HE PUNISHES THE SINNERS....

All this encompasses with the writings of the Holy Scriptures..... Read on
the New Testament: Lucas 21 - 5:121, 12:19, 20:20, 29:33 ,  Lettersof St
Paul   3 - 8 - 14 ,  Isaiah 40, 1:5:9.  You mustunderstand that God allows
all this to happen.  The Pope and Bishops are now awaiting anothermessage
that speaks  about repentance and prayer.  Remember that God 'swords are
not a threat, but  good news....  Please arrange to forward toall your
friends so we all can  have the opportunity to repent and besaved.  We do
not know if those receiving this message believe or not in GOD, butthink
that if you are receiving this message is for a reason!!

Maybe the Creator is giving us the chance to be  saved, no matterwhat
religion or creed.  If you don't believe in this  message atleast send it
to others, it costs you nothing.  To all those receiving it, theycan have
the opportunity to judge for themselves.  Remember that we can avoida great
deal  if we practice the commandments that our Father God leftus.  There
are 10 simple things, that if we all put in practice we can obtainGod's
pardon.

God's Message For You Today, April 9, 2008

HEAVEN ON EARTH

"I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst." – John 6:35

"The Mass — and I mean every single Mass — is heaven on earth." That's what Scott Hahn said in his book, The Lamb's Supper: The Mass as Heaven on Earth.
Even if I try to attend Mass regularly, I sure don't feel that way every time. I get sleepy, distracted, numb. Of course, I also feel great — sometimes.
But I try to attend Mass daily, not because of my feelings, but because I believe I meet Jesus there. When I'm happy, I give thanks. And when I'm tempted or down, then I literally run to Mass for help. Afterwards, I get insight, a sense that everything will turn out right or that I am not alone.
When Jesus promised to nourish us with Himself in the Eucharist, it covered every area of our lives: emotional, spiritual and financial.
Next time we go to church, let's be more aware where we are and Who we're seeing. We might just see heaven come down. Joy Sosoban

REFLECTION:
"It would be easier for the world to exist without the sun than without the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass." (Padre Pio of Pietrelcina)

Don't let me attend Mass only out of duty, Lord. Let me love You in it.

Look At How The way she did to my HEART

She made my heart suffer so much... its time to take vengeance... "an eye for an eye" as the saying goes. i don't know how could i moved on, all i know right now is that my heart is full of vengeance, wrath, and anger. i don't know too how far this bitterness in me will reside and how far will it take me for my vengeance.

God's Message For You Today, March 27, 2008

MiRACLES

"You Israelites, why are you amazed at this… as if we made him walk by our own power or piety?" – Acts 3:12

I'm amazed whenever I experience small miracles. Like the time when I got seven pairs of shoes from my uncle right after my mom commented how worn out mine were. Or the time when I woke up at 3 a.m. and was led to pray for my sister. Unknown to me, she was giving birth then and was in a life-and-eath situation. (She survived that ordeal.) There was also a time when somebody gave me a car a week after I had prayed for one.
But as the years passed, I tended to take for granted the wondrous things that the Lord was doing in my life. Another tendency was to live for the miracles rather than to make myself available to do His will.
American preacher Greg Laurie writes, "The Book of Acts is a record of what Jesus Christ did in the lives of His people over a 30-year span. This is important to realize because...it sounds like the early believers had a miracle happening every few minutes."
True, they saw miracles, but they weren't a constant experience. Our role is to follow Christ in all circumstances, making ourselves available to be used by Him — in a typical "ordinary" day or in a glorious, "miraculous" moment. Ariel Driz

REFLECTION:
Am I available to be used by the Lord in all types of circumstances?

Lord Jesus, I pray for openness to be used by You for Your kingdom here on earth. Amen.

THE GOOD KIND

Mary of Magdala went and announced to the disciples, "I have seen the Lord," and what he told her. – John 20:18

He ate with them. Bonded with them. They took boat rides and mountain hikes together. He spoke to the crowds in parables but He would take them aside and explain its meanings to them. They were His best buddies. Barkada, as we would say in Filipino.
So I would think that as soon as Jesus rose from the dead, He would have let the Apostles know first. But no. God, in His divine wisdom, chose a woman to be the first witness of His resurrection.
There must be a reason. And I joke that He chose a woman to make sure that the news of His resurrection would spread to the ends of the earth.
Face it, we women are generally more detailed when it comes to telling a story. And boy, can we retell them really fast! But it's not how detailed or how fast we can spread the news that matters but what kind of stories they are. Are they gossip that can destroy other's reputation? Or hearsay that will cause strife? Or chitchat that is negative and doesn't upbuild? Or is it good news that encourages, heals and gives strength to others?
So go ahead, spread the news. But make sure it's a good one. Rissa Singson-Kawpeng

REFLECTION:
Seek Him and you will find Him.

Lord, help me to always remember that You are right within me, even if I don't feel it.

God's Message For You Today, March 24, 2008

HALLER!

Suddenly Jesus met them. "Greetings," he said. – Matthew 28:9a

As the gust of the autumn breeze brushes the trees, brown dead leaves fall from their branches. Except those of the mighty oak tree. Its rotting leaves continue to stubbornly cling on to the branches — even through winter — long after all the other trees around are barren and twiggy. But a miraculous thing happens though when spring comes. Fresh shoots of leaves emerge from the branches, pushing out the rotten leaves. What the external forces couldn't do, the life from within accomplishes!
In the original text, "Greetings!" in today's reading should have been more accurately translated to the more familiar "Hello!" Or better yet, "Haller!"
Hellos always start something, either a phone conversation or a new friendship. God's promise in His word says "Behold, I will make all things new." Maybe that's why Jesus said "Hello!"
The message of Easter Power is what New Year's resolutions, self-help books, psychology techniques and nagging wives couldn't do, the new life from within — through the resurrection of Jesus — could! It's so personal, and it's for me, because of "Hello!" Jon Escoto

REFLECTION:
Have there been "ugly dead leaves" of sin that still cling so stubbornly in your life? Leave them all behind at the empty tomb. Live out this new life.

Lord, You rose from the dead for us. Let me not forget that You did it personally for me too. Hello Jesus! Make me new!

God's Message For You Today, March 19, 2008

HOLY WEDNESDAY
THiRTY PiECES OF SiLVER

"What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?" They paid him thirty pieces of silver. – Matthew 26:15

I cringe every time I think of how Jesus was traded for 30 pieces of silver. That was all it took to hand Him over to the chief priests. Judas Iscariot gave up his love for Christ for a pouch full of money. I cringe even more when I realize that as struggling and sinful Christians, we all play Judas Iscariot. We have all "traded" Jesus for this world's version of 30 pieces of silver.
Each time we fall into sin, we trade our love for Jesus for something else.
Harboring anger and resentment towards another person. Lying to save face.
Not going to Mass because of laziness.
Choosing money over kindness and righteousness.
Each time we choose not to do the loving thing.
We all have our versions of 30 pieces of silver.
I pray that no amount of silver, or its many varied, deceitful versions, will keep our eyes and hearts away from the real treasure – Jesus. Cess Cosico

REFLECTION:
What have I traded Jesus for?

Lord Jesus, may You always be my one true treasure.

Amen

Believe it and you shall be BLESSED!

The problem with many of us is that we don't believe that God will open a window and pour out blessings that we won't have room to receive them. I dare anyone to try God. He is true to His word. God cannot lie and His promises are sure.

Three things will happen to you this coming week:

(1) You will find favour with someone you don't expect;

(2) You will be too relevant to be ignored;

(3) You will encounter God and you will never remain the same again.

My prayer for you today:

The eyes beholding this message shall not behold evil, the hands that will send this message to others shall not labor in vain, the mouth saying Amen to this prayer shall laugh forever. Remain in God's love as you send this prayer to everybody on your list. Have a lovely journey of life! Trust in the Lord with all your heart and He will never fail you because He is AWESOME !

If you truly need a blessing, continue reading this email:

Heavenly Father, most Gracious and Loving God, I pray to you that you abundantly bless my family and me. I know that you recognize, that a family is more than just a mother, father, sister, brother, husband and wife, but all who believe and trust in you. Father, I send up a prayer request for blessings for not only the person who sent this to me, but for me and all that I have forwarded this message on to. And that the power of joined prayer by those who believe and trust in you is more powerful than anything. I thank you in advance for your blessings.

Father God, deliver the person reading this right now from debt and debt's burdens. Release your Godly wisdom that I may be a good steward over all that You have given me Father, for I know how wonderful and mighty you are and how if we just obey you and walk In your word and have the faith of a mustard seed that you will pour out blessings. I thank you now Lord for the recent blessings I have received and for the blessings yet to come because I know you are not done with me yet. In Jesus' name, I pray...AMEN.

Aton Aton Lang Ini....

Here's one Ilongoo checklist you might find handy if you wanna check if you're really an Ilonggo... hehehe
Maayong Aga da …here's a reminder about your genes….

You know you are a true blue Ilonggo if
...

Your one peso is pisos
Your bathroom has at least one lugod (or one for every family member)

Your nanay used to make you drink Mirinda or Royal Tru Orange when you have a fever, which is supposed to make you feel better.

Sinamak is a staple on your dining table (the best
Ilonggo invention if you ask me... it was even banned on airplanes long before 911)

Your toyo is patis and your patis is toyo

You use atsuete for your adobo and refer to pinaksiw as pinamalhan

Your daily meal will likely include laswa, kbl (kadyos, baboy, langka), ginat-an nga tambo with tugabang and okra, ginat-an nga munggo, Linutik, apan-apan, etc.

November 1 means eating ibus, suman, suman
Latik,
kalamay-hati, bayi-bayi, valenciana or other native delicacies with glutinous rice and coconut milk.

You call those you love palangga, pangga, langga
or Ga.

You call your siblings or cousins inday, nonoy
or toto... the  househelp may call you the same.

You call those who are older than you manang or manong.

You catch the attention of sales attendants by calling them "day"or "to"

Your childhood games include tumba patis, taksi, panagu-ay, balay-balay, ins, tin-tin baka, etc.

You used to be (or still are) scared to go out at night lest you meet the aswang, tik-tik , tayhu, kapre, kama-kama, morto, etc.

Your grandparents read Yuhum magazine

You call a person, thing, place and
event "kwan" when you forget it (si kwan, ang kwan,
sakwan)

You understand that "Particulars Keep Out" sign means outsiders keep out.

You use words such as "ahay" (expression of
pity, grief, empathy), "yuga" (expression of disbelief, surprise), "ambot ah" (to say you don't know,
expression of impatience).

You often start your sentence with "ti".

You say goodbye by saying "halong".

Your favorite  cusswords are "linte" (if you're slightly pissed off), "lilinti-an" (if you're now really pissed off) and finally "yodiputa" (if you're pissed off big time)

Guilty?
You are indeed a TRUE Ilonggo indeed!
