MANILA, Philippines -- Longest-running noontime show "Eat Bulaga!" has overtaken ABS-CBN's "Wowowee" last weekend after several weeks languishing in second place against its rival show, television overnight ratings in Metro Manila reveal.
On Friday, April 27, "Eat Bulaga!," shown over GMA-7, registered a 21.2% rating as against the 20.1% of "Wowowee". For Saturday, April 28, "Eat Bulaga!" surged ahead with a 26.2% rating as against "Wowowee's" 21.2%. This is attributed to the 53rd birthday celebration of "Eat Bulaga!" host Vic Sotto in the show.
"Eat Bulaga!'s" second-place finish in recent weeks have even led to a planned reformatting of the show, which could have led to the axing of most of its hosts, except for Vic and Joey de Leon.
Meanwhile, GMA-7's "Startalk" remained the most watched showbiz talk show overall with a 15.1% rating. ABS-CBN's "The Buzz" came in second with 13.8% while GMA-7's "Showbiz Central," the new talk show that replaced "S-Files," came in third with 12%. "Startalk" is shown every Saturday afternoon while "The Buzz" and "Showbiz Central" are shown every Sunday afternoon.
