GREAT UNVEILING

"Therefore, stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come." –

Matthew 24:42

Before I got spiritually renewed, I found the Mass boring. I only felt compelled

to go because my mother always told me I'd commit mortal sin if I don't. So I
often went but I'd sleep during homily.
Praise God for the Charismatic Renewal and the change in my thinking towards the

Mass. Recently, I re-read the book Lamb's Supper: The Mass as Heaven on Earth by

Scott Hahn. In one portion of the book, he wrote, "You can tell them that, yes,
the end is near; yes, the Apocalypse is now. But the Church has always taught
that the end is near — as near as your parish church. And it's something you
should be running to, not from."
To the Jews, apokalypsis describes a part of their week-long wedding activities.

It was the lifting of the veil of a virgin bride. So during Mass, Apocalypse (or

unveiling) happens and Jesus and heaven are unveiled before our eyes.
So not only is there no reason to be afraid of the "apocalypse," there is every
reason to be awake during Mass. Let us remind ourselves of this the next time we

celebrate the Eucharist. Let us wait with bated breath for the great unveiling.
Joy Sosoban (jsosoban@gmail.com)

REFLECTION:
"You can do nothing that can give greater glory to God or be more profitable for

your soul than to hear Mass both frequently and devoutly." (St. Peter Julian
Eymard)

Dear Lord, make me wakeful. Enable me to behold You.

1st READING

This prophecy of Isaiah is incredible. It speaks of a time when there will be no

more war. Does our supposedly Christian society reflect this vision? Does it
seem to be getting closer to this reality or moving further away from it?
Sometimes I find it difficult to know the answers to these questions. Perhaps
the more important question is, "In our own lives do we minister the peace of
Christ to those around us?"

Isaiah 2:1-5
1 This is what Isaiah, son of Amoz, saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. 2 In
days to come, the mountain of the LORD's house shall be established as the
highest mountain and raised above the hills. All nations shall stream toward it;

3 many peoples shall come and say "Come, let us climb the LORD's mountain, to
the house of the God of Jacob, that he may instruct us in his ways, and we may
walk in his paths." For from Zion shall go forth instruction, and the word of
the LORD from Jerusalem. 4 He shall judge between the nations, and impose terms
on many peoples. They shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears
into pruning hooks; one nation shall not raise the sword against another, nor
shall they train for war again. 5 O house of Jacob, come, let us walk in the
light of the LORD!

P S A L M

Psalm 122:1-2, 3-4, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9
R: Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.
1 I rejoiced because they said to me, "We will go up to the house of the LORD."
2 And now we have set foot within your gates, O Jerusalem. (R) 3 Jerusalem,
built as a city with compact unity. 4 To it the tribes go up, the tribes of the
LORD. (R) According to the decree for Israel, to give thanks to the name of the
LORD. 5 In it are set up judgment seats, seats for the house of David. (R) 6
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem! May those who love you prosper! 7 May peace be
within your walls, prosperity in your buildings. (R) 8 Because of my brothers
and friends I will say, "Peace be within you!" 9 Because of the house of the
LORD, our God, I will pray for your good. (R)

2nd READING
The theme of light and darkness is common in the Scriptures. As we begin our
Advent journey towards the celebration of Christ's birth, let us come into the
light of Christ's presence and leave behind us the darkness of our sin. "The
'time' has come," says the apostle Paul. Are you willing to respond to his call?

Romans 13:11-14
11 Brothers and sisters: You know the time; it is the hour now for you to awake
from sleep. For our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed; 12 the
night is advanced, the day is at hand. Let us then throw off the works of
darkness and put on the armor of light; 13 let us conduct ourselves properly as
in the day, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in promiscuity and
licentiousness, not in rivalry and jealousy. 14 But put on the
Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the desires of the flesh.

G O S P E L

If Jesus were to come again tomorrow, would you be ready to greet Him? Have you
done all that you should to get rid of the sin in your life? If not, why not?
We already know we are called to avoid sin. We do not have any valid excuses for

not being ready when He calls us to Himself.

Matthew 24:37-44
37 Jesus said to his disciples: "As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at

the coming of the Son of Man. 38 In those days before the flood, they were
eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day that Noah
entered the ark. 39 They did not know until the flood came and carried them all
away. So will it be also at the coming of the Son of Man. 40 Two men will be out

in the field; one will be taken, and one will be left.
41 Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken, and one will be
left. 42 Therefore, stay awake! For you do not know on which day your
Lord will come. 43 Be sure of this: if the master of the house had known the
hour of night when the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and not let
his house be broken into. 44 So too, you also must be prepared, for at an hour
you do not expect, the Son of Man will come."

Advent: A Time of Active Preparation

There's a story about Colonel Davenport, Speaker of the Connecticut House of
Representatives way back in 1789. One day, while the House was in session, the
sky suddenly grew dark and gloomy. Some representatives looked out the window
and thought it was the end of the world. An uproar erupted with the
representatives calling for immediate adjournment. But Davenport rose and said,
"Gentlemen, the Day of Judgment is either approaching or it is not. If it is
not, there is no cause for adjournment. If it is, I choose to be found doing my
duty. Therefore, I wish that candles be brought." Candles were brought out and
the session continued.

On this first Sunday of Advent, the Church does not yet focus on the birth of
Jesus more than 2,000 years ago. Instead it makes us reflect on the final coming

of Christ at the end of time and how to prepare for it. People make two big
mistakes with regard to the coming of the Lord. One is to prepare for it with
paranoid anxiety. The other is to dismiss it with indifference and do nothing
about it. What does the Gospel tell us about the end of the world and how to
prepare for it?
The Gospel uses two images to make the point. One is the flood which overtook
the unprepared people of Noah's time. The other is the analogy of a thief in the

night, who always comes unannounced. So Jesus urges us to be watchful and ready.
To be watchful and ready does not mean getting overwhelmed by end-of-the-world
prophecies or by multiplying visions of the world's end. Rather it means, as
Colonel Davenport rightly put it, to be more faithful to our duties as children
of God and the world. To be awake, therefore, is to live a life of faithful
service to the Lord, following the Lord's commands and abiding in His grace.

Today, as we begin the new liturgical year, let us resolve to reject the
doomsday paranoia on the one hand and irresponsible complacency on the other.
Let us resolve to live a life of faith and love in service to the Lord so that
we shall be ready to follow Him into the glory of eternity. Fr.
Rudy Horst, SVD
Reflection Question:

Despite the busy days before Christmas, how can I make Advent a time of
reflection and inner spiritual preparation?

Lord, You give us once more this time of Advent to reflect not only on Your
coming into the world, but also on Your final coming into my life at the hour of

death. Help me to live my life in active service to You so that I will be
prepared to meet You.

St. James Thompson, pray for us.

Just The Way You Are - Bruno Mars

Oh her eyes, her eyes
Make the stars look like they're not shining
Her hair, her hair
Falls perfectly without her trying

She's so beautiful
And I tell her every day

Yeah I know, I know
When I compliment her
She wont believe me
And its so, its so
Sad to think she don't see what I see

But every time she asks me do I look okay
I say

When I see your face
There's not a thing that I would change
Cause you're amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile,
The whole world stops and stares for awhile
Cause girl you're amazing
Just the way you are

Her nails, her nails
I could kiss them all day if she'd let me
Her laugh, her laugh
She hates but I think its so sexy

She's so beautiful

And I tell her every day

Oh you know, you know, you know
Id never ask you to change
If perfect is what you're searching for
Then just stay the same

So don't even bother asking
If you look okay
You know I say

When I see your face
There's not a thing that I would change
Cause you're amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile,
The whole world stops and stares for awhile
Cause girl you're amazing
Just the way you are

The way you are
The way you are

Just the way you are

When I see your face
There's not a thing that I would change

wisdom from children

But now, Lady, I ask you, not as though I were writing a new commandment but the

one we have had from the beginning: let us love one another. – 2 John 5

A family of four were having dinner in a restaurant, when another family sat on
the table nearest them, ordered and waited for their food.
As the first family began to eat, the little girl noticed what the other family
was eating. She saw that the only thing they ordered was a bowl of rice and a
medium-sized fish. She also noticed that the parents hardly touched the food,
but instead kept on urging their children to eat. She also noticed that they
looked neat but very poorly dressed, and looked very hungry.
After a few minutes, she asked her mother if she could give the food on her
plate to the other family. Her mother instantly admonished her, telling her not
to mind other people but just eat. She looked at her mother, and said, "Look at
them, they are hungry but that is all they have. We have so much and they have
nothing but that fish. Did you not teach us to be kind?"
There are times when children know better than their elders. When God uses them
to remind us of our calling to love, we would do well to heed them. Chelle
Crisanto (ellehcmaria@yahoo. com)

REFLECTION:
"Love will stammer rather than be dumb." (Robert Leighton)

Oftentimes I look away when I know that I need to reach out and help a friend.
Help me, Lord, and put in my heart that I must love no matter what the
circumstances are. Give me a heart of love.

1st READING

There are many people at work in the world who are trying to bring down the
Gospel. Some of them do this consciously but many of them unconsciously attack
the values of the Gospel through ignorance or misdirected passion. This makes it

all the more urgent for us to live and proclaim the Gospel. I am sure that if we

can convince those who attack it unconsciously not to do so, it will be far more

difficult for those who do it deliberately to avoid detection. Being able to see

one's enemy goes a long way to learning how to defeat him or her.

2 John 4-9
4 [Chosen Lady:] I rejoiced greatly to find some of your children walking in the

truth just as we were commanded by the Father. 5 But now, Lady, I ask you, not
as though I were writing a new commandment but the one we have had from the
beginning: let us love one another. 6 For this is love, that we walk according
to his commandments; this is the commandment, as you heard from the beginning,
in which you should walk. 7 Many deceivers have gone out into the world, those
who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh; such is the
deceitful one and the antichrist. 8 Look to yourselves that you do not lose what

we worked for but may receive a full recompense. 9 Anyone who is so
"progressive" as not to remain in the teaching of the Christ does not have God;
whoever remains in the teaching has the Father and the Son.

P S A L M

Psalm 119:1, 2, 10, 11, 17, 18
R: Blessed are they who follow the law of the Lord!
1 Blessed are they whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the LORD. (R)
2 Blessed are they who observe his decrees, who seek him with all their heart.
(R) 10 With all my heart I seek you; let me not stray from your commands. (R) 11

Within my heart I treasure your promise, that I may not sin against you. (R) 17
Be good to your servant, that I may live and keep your words. (R) 18 Open my
eyes, that I may consider the wonders of your law. (R)

G O S P E L

The Scriptures often remind us of what has happened in the past, both the good
and the bad. We need to learn not just from our own experiences in life but
those of others as well, particularly those whom God places before us as
examples of faith — or examples of what not to do. Let us never insist on having

"to know something for ourselves" if it is possible to learn the same through
the experiences of others.

Luke 17:26-37
26 Jesus said to his disciples: "As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be in

the days of the Son of Man; 27 they were eating and drinking, marrying and
giving in marriage up to the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came
and destroyed them all. 28 Similarly, as it was in the days of Lot: they were
eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, building; 29 on the day when Lot
left Sodom, fire and brimstone rained from the sky to destroy them all. 30 So it

will be on the day the Son of Man is revealed. 31 On that day, a person who is
on the housetop and whose belongings are in the house must not go down to get
them, and likewise a person in the field must not return to what was left
behind. 32 Remember the wife of Lot. 33 Whoever seeks to preserve his life will
lose it, but whoever loses it will save it. 34 I tell you, on that night, there
will be two people in one bed; one will be taken, the other left. 35 And there
will be two women grinding meal together; one will be taken, the other left." 36

37 They said to him in reply, "Where, Lord?" He said to them, "Where the body
is, there also the vultures will gather." came and destroyed them all. 28

About Love and the Antichrist

The first reading today speaks about several important points. First, the writer

stresses love as the basic attitude of Christians. He reminds us of Jesus'
words, "A new commandment I give to you: love one another even as I have loved
you. By this all people will know that you are my disciples — if you have love
for one another."
A Christian ought to manifest love in his daily life. By love we mean not the
romantic or sentimental kind. Rather, it is a kind of sacrificial love that
Jesus showed with His selfsacrifice on the Cross.
In the Constitution on the Church in the World, the second Vatican Council
stresses that Christians cannot yearn for anything more ardently than to serve
the men and women of the modern world with mounting generosity and success.
Therefore, by holding faithfully to the Gospel and benefiting from its
resources, by joining with every person who loves and practices justice,
Christians have shouldered a gigantic task for fulfillment in this world" (no.
93).
A real disciple of Christ involves himself in the affairs of the world in order
to change it for the better through love of truth and justice. A second point in

these few verses is a warning against deceivers who, through their preaching,
contradict the teachings of Christ and the Church. During this time, the heresy
that Jesus was not the Son of God — meaning the denial of Christ's divinity —
was spreading, a false doctrine being taught by some "churches" even today. The
author of the letter calls these "believers" Antichrist. John, in his second
letter, declares that whoever denies the divinity of Christ is the Antichrist.
We may believe strongly in the divinity of Christ, but there are Catholics who
ignore or even reject certain teachings of the Church that are based on the
words of the Lord. May they not slip unknowingly into the camp of the
Antichrist! May all of us humbly accept what the Holy Spirit teaches through the

Church — even when it goes against modern trends!Fr. Rudy Horst, SVD

Reflection Question:
Am I aware that love makes me a real disciple of Christ? Do I readily accept the

teachings of the Church?

Lord, increase and strengthen my love for You, for my fellowmen and for the
Church. Help me to work actively for a better world, a world of love and
justice, as You did when You were here on earth.

St. Machar, pray for us.

Never Too LATE, Tumatanda Ka Na... nice read from my email...

May multivitamins, vitamin E, vitamin C, royal
jelly, tsaka ginko biloba.

Dati, laging may inuman.

Balikan mo sila.

Ikaw ang nagbago, hindi ang mundo.

HOLDING ON.....This is really amazing ...

at the end of this story, it gives you two options.
I think you will figure out what option I chose.

Dallas as the doctor walked into the small hospital room of Diana Blessing. She was still groggy from surgery.

Her husband, David, held her hand as they braced themselves for the latest news.

That afternoon of March 10, 1991 , complications had forced Diana, only 24-weeks pregnant, to undergo an emergency Cesarean to deliver couple's new daughter, Dana Lu Blessing.

At 12 inches long and weighing only one pound nine ounces, they already knew she was perilously premature.

Still, the doctor's soft words dropped like bombs.
"I don't think she's going to make it," he said, as kindly as he could.

"There's only a 10-percent chance she will live through the night, and even then, if by some slim chance she does make it, her future could be a very cruel one"

Numb with disbelief, David and Diana listened as the doctor described the devastating problems Dana would likely face if she survived.

She would never walk, she would never talk, she would probably be blind, and she would certainly be prone to other catastrophic conditions from cerebral palsy to complete mental retardation, and on and on.

"No! No!" was all Diana could say.

She and David, with their 5-year-old son Dustin, had long dreamed of the day they would have a daughter to become a family of four.

Now, within a matter of hours, that dream was slipping away

But as those first days passed, a new agony set in for David and Diana.

Because Dana's underdeveloped nervous system was essentially 'raw', the lightest kiss or caress only intensified her discomfort, so they couldn't even cradle their tiny baby girl against their chests to offer the strength of their love.

All they could do, as Dana struggled alone beneath the ultraviolet light in the tangle of tubes and wires, was to pray that God would stay close to their precious little girl.

There was never a moment when Dana suddenly grew stronger.

But as the weeks went by, she did slowly gain an ounce of weight here and an ounce of strength there.

At last, when Dana turned two months old, her parents were able to hold her in their arms for the very first time.

And two months later, though doctors continued to gently but grimly warn that her chances of surviving, much less living any kind of normal life, were next to zero, Dana went home from the hospital, just as her mother had predicted.

Five years later, when Dana was a petite but feisty young girl with glittering gray eyes and an unquenchable zest for life.

She showed no signs whatsoever of any mental or physical impairment. Simply, she was everything a little girl can be and more. But that happy ending is far from the end of her story.

One blistering afternoon in the summer of 1996 near her home in Irving , Texas , Dana was sitting in her mother's lap in the bleachers of a local ball park where her brother Dustin's baseball team was practicing.

As always, Dana was chattering nonstop with her mother and several other adults sitting nearby when she suddenly fell silent . Hugging her arms across her chest, little Dana asked, "Do you smell that?"

Smelling the air and detecting the approach of a thunderstorm, Diana replied, "Yes, it smells like rain."

Dana closed her eyes and again asked, "Do you smell that?"

Once again, her mother replied, "Yes, I think we're about to get wet. It smells like rain."

Still caught in the moment, Dana shook her head, patted her thin shoulders with her small hands and loudly announced,

"No, it smells like Him.

It smells like God when you lay your head on His chest."

Tears blurred Diana's eyes as Dana happily hopped down to play with the other children.

Before the rains came, her daughter's words confirmed what Diana and all the members of the extended Blessing family had known, at least in their hearts, all along.

During those long days and nights of her first two months of her life, when her nerves were too sensitive for them to touch her, God was holding Dana on His chest and it is His loving scent that she remembers so well.

You now have 1 of 2 choices. You can either pass this on and let other people catch the chills like you did or you can delete this and act like it didn't touch your heart like it did mine.

IT'S YOUR CALL!

"I can do all things in Him who strengthens me."

This morning when the Lord opened a window to Heaven, He saw me, and He asked: "My child, what is your greatest wish for today?" I responded:

"Lord please, take care of the person who is reading this message, their family and their special friends. They deserve it and I love them very much" The love of God is like the ocean, you can see its beginning, but not its end.
